U of A

On Tuesday, we drove down to Tucson to have lunch with students at the University of Arizona. What a great group . . . musicians, teachers, etc. Pastor Ron Rude facilitated conversation about seminary, candidacy, courses, ministry, financial aid, etc. All three of these Arizona ministries are just wonderful and the pastors care deeply for their students. I hope that all of you are blessed with pastors as wonderful as these.

NAU

Sunday afternoon, we made the beautiful drive north to Flagstaff where we worshipped (I preached again) with the students at Northern Arizona University. Afterward, we went to Granny's Closet for a meal and to watch the Superbowl (I'm glad I didn't have any money on Seattle!). The students there were interested in ministry and seminary and we had great conversations. The next morning, we drove back down to Phoenix (with Heather Devine from Wartburg and I making a stop for 18 holes of golf!).

Arizona State

On Sunday morning, I preached at University Lutheran Church in Tempe, AZ: the Campus Minstry for ASU. Pastor Gary McCluskey invited me to be the preacher for the morning service (visit www.plts.edu to read my homily from that morning). After church, we gathered with students from ASU and talked about ministry, seminary, and candidacy and answered the questions that they had.

Youth Ministry Extravaganza

PLTS was invited to the Youth Ministry Extravaganza in Phoenix, Arizona this year where I met with people engaged in the important ministry with youth. While there with my colleagues, we facilitated 2 workshops, met individually with students, had conversations with youth ministers, and displayed PLTS materials on a table. Folks interested in Youth and Family Ministry can come to PLTS for a certificate or degree in Y/FM with the resources of many religious traditions, specially funded youth and family research projects, and a culturally diverse faculty and student body. Courses include: Christian Education in the Parish, Theologies of Childhood, Empowering Laity for Ministry, Family, Christians and Citizens, Catechesis in a Multicultural Church, Youth Spirituality, Issues for Urban Ministry, Baptism and Practical Theology, and others. For more information on our Y/FM programs, please be in touch with the Admissions Center!
